Description

A hearty and flavorful comfort food dish made with minced meat and creamy potatoes, infused with warm spices and topped with fresh cilantro.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, lamb, or chicken)
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 23 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Once hot, toss in 1 teaspoon cumin seeds and relish the sizzle.
  2. Add 1 large chopped onion. Cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste and the chopped 2-3 green chilies. Cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Add 1 lb ground meat to the pan and cook until browned and fully cooked through, approximately 8-10 minutes.
  5. Toss in the 2 chopped tomatoes, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Cook until the tomatoes soften, around 5 minutes.
  6. Add the 2 diced potatoes and pour in enough water to just cover the ingredients—about 1-1.5 cups.
  7. Cover the pan and reduce heat to low. Let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes until the potatoes become tender.
  8. Stir in 1 teaspoon garam masala. Adjust seasoning if needed and garnish with fresh cilantro.

Notes

Chop all vegetables ahead of time for a smoother cooking experience. For variations, try using plant-based meat or different types of potatoes.
