Description

A warm and delightful bread infused with the vibrant heat of jalapeños and the rich flavor of sharp cheddar cheese, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt or 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 jalapeños, seeds removed and diced
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (105°F to 110°F)

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon active dry yeast, 1 ½ cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and the diced jalapeños, mixing thoroughly.
  2. Pour in 1 ½ cups of warm water. With a spoon, stir until the mixture forms a sticky dough ball.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set it aside in a warm area for 8-18 hours.
  4. Heat your oven to 450°F and place a 2.75-quart Dutch oven inside to preheat for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Punch down the dough gently, transfer it to a sheet of parchment paper, and shape it into a ball. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside, cover with the lid, and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Store in a sealed bag for 2-3 days, or freeze for longer storage. Optional flavor additions include fresh herbs or different cheeses.
