- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt or 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 jalapeños, seeds removed and diced
- 1 ½ cups warm water (105°F to 110°F)
Instructions
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon active dry yeast, 1 ½ cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and the diced jalapeños, mixing thoroughly.
- Pour in 1 ½ cups of warm water. With a spoon, stir until the mixture forms a sticky dough ball.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set it aside in a warm area for 8-18 hours.
- Heat your oven to 450°F and place a 2.75-quart Dutch oven inside to preheat for at least 30 minutes.
- Punch down the dough gently, transfer it to a sheet of parchment paper, and shape it into a ball. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside, cover with the lid, and bake for 45 minutes.
- Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
Store in a sealed bag for 2-3 days, or freeze for longer storage. Optional flavor additions include fresh herbs or different cheeses.
