Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully cut the onion into petal shapes without slicing through the base.
  3. Combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl.
  4. Dip the onion into the buttermilk, coating thoroughly.
  5. Coat the onion with the flour mixture, making sure each petal is covered.
  6. Spray the onion with cooking spray for added crunchiness.
  7. Place the onion in the air fryer and cook for 12-15 minutes until golden-brown.
  8. Remove from the fryer and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour. Adjust the cooking time if using a traditional frying method.
