Description
A comforting and indulgent melt featuring savory ground beef, caramelized onions, and gooey cheese toasted between slices of crispy bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella)
- 4 slices of sturdy bread (sourdough or whole grain)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Optional toppings: pickles, mustard, or additional onions
Instructions
- Cook the onion: Heat your skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and caramelize it until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Brown the beef: Increase the heat slightly, add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Assemble your sandwich: Lay two slices of bread down, spoon the beef mixture onto each slice and top with shredded cheese. Close the sandwiches with remaining slices.
- Butter the bread: Spread butter evenly over the outside of each sandwich.
- Toast to perfection: In the same skillet, cook the sandwiches over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Serve and enjoy: Slice in half and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the ground beef mixture ahead of time and assemble sandwiches just before cooking.
