Description

Indulge in the warmth of home-cooked comfort with this layered Italian lasagna featuring rich beef, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Basil
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Parsley
  • 12 ounces Lasagna Noodles
  • 4 cups Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onions for 5 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  2. Brown ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking it with a wooden spoon until fully cooked.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar. Add dried basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, sour cream, egg, Parmesan, and chopped parsley. Stir until well blended.
  5. Boil lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente, then drain and let cool slightly.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Start layering by spreading a thin layer of meat sauce in a baking dish, followed by noodles, cheese mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat until ingredients are used, finishing with noodles and meat sauce topped with mozzarella.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover, dot with butter, and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make-ahead by assembling a day in advance and refrigerating. Use different cheeses or add veggies to customize.
