Description

Deliciously festive King Cake Sugar Cookie Bars with a buttery base, creamy glaze, and vibrant sprinkles, perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Purple, green, and gold sanding sugar or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract, almond extract, and lemon zest.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and whisk them together.
  6. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients gradually until combined.
  7. Transfer the dough to the baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until edges are golden.
  9. Cool the bars completely on a wire rack.
  10. Make the icing by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  11. Glaze the cooled bars with icing and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
  12. Set for 30 minutes before slicing into bars.
