Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup softened butter and ½ cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, blend until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1½ cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mix, alternating with ¼ cup milk, stirring gently until combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- In a small bowl, mix together ½ cup packed brown sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon, drizzle in ¼ cup melted butter, stirring to combine.
- Drop spoonfuls of the cinnamon mixture over the base batter, then spread the remaining batter on top. Swirl gently using a knife.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool on a wire rack.
- For frosting, beat together 4 ounces softened cream cheese and ¼ cup softened butter until smooth, then add 1½ cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing until creamy. Add milk until a spreadable consistency is reached.
- Frost cooled bars, slice into squares, and serve.
Notes
For a richer flavor, let the bars sit overnight; they taste even better the next day. Customize with nuts or chocolate chips for added texture.
