- 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
- 1 Egg (beaten)
- 1 Onion (finely diced)
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 3 tbsp Butter (salted or unsalted)
- 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
- 2 cups Beef broth (low sodium preferred)
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 Onion (sliced)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.
- Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat, and brown the patties for 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from skillet.
- Melt butter in the same skillet and sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized.
- Add flour to the skillet, stirring for about 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and cream, creating a smooth mixture; bring to a gentle simmer.
- Nestle the browned patties into the gravy.
- Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the meat mixture a day in advance. Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. Additional veggies can be added to the gravy.
